Modern Warfare 2, Heavy Rain, and Batman:Arkham Asylum stood out for me. Wow they are still talking about the PS2, a 9 year life cycle. Jesus.
2:18 – PS3 sold 22 million units globally last year, wow.
2:20 – Naughty Dog studios announces that Multiplayer Beta for Uncharted 2 starts tonight at midnight.
2:22 – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves looks absolutely beautiful, voice acting could use some polishing, but it combines cover-based shooting, and puzzle movement.
2:26 – MAG is up next, eagerly awaiting this. They just showed all 256 players on screen, this is going to be epic.
2:29 – Time limit on matches is one hour…my god, this is a new step into implementing realism into gaming.
2:33 – PSP time, I think I zoned out for the past 3 minutes, they are talking about a Hannah Montana bundle for PSP.
2:36 – PSP Go shown, a much smaller PSP. Claiming that it is not the replacement for PSP…wasn’t that what they said the DS wasn’t going to be for the Game Boy?
2:39 – Sense Me is being pushed, it sounds just like Apple’s Genius playlist.
2:40 – Both UMD and download games will be available, seems like that is not a very wise economical move.
2:43 – Polyphony Studios is on stage now, Gran Turismo PSP is announced. Is the translator reading off of a script? This seems very unprofessional.
2:44 – Gran turismo PSP will have 800 cars?! That is amazing.
2:50 – Metal Gear Solid…oh my god Hideo Kojima!!
2:51 – Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP, oh my god, 10 years after MGS3! Possibly Big Boss?!?! Fuuuuuuuu! Need a PSP!
2:53 – YES IT IS BIG BOSS!
2:54 – Oh shit. FOX Unit! This is the story we have all been waiting for.
2:57 – Kojima always makes such great trailers.
2:59 – RE for PSP, and Little Big Planet for PSP!! Was also just informed that Sony has the stage for 2 hours, which is insane!
3:01 – Oh god, Soul Caliber for the PSP! This system is getting so much better with every minute of this conference.
3:04 – Urgh, Final Fantasy VII going to be re-released for PSN, blahhhhh
3:05 – Home is being pushed…but home sucks.
3:07 – Home video, going to zone out for it.
3:11 – These videos have been so long. OH GOD! I forgot about the new Katamari!!
3:13 – BioShock 2….gah. Alright video is now over, let’s see some announcements.
3:14 – New Rockstar game called Agent, oooo a 1970’s piece. PS3 exclusive.
3:15 – BOO! Assasin’s Creed 2! YOU ARE THE REASON I LOST FAITH IN GAMING!
3:17 – Leonardo DaVinci is going to be an integral part of Assasin’s Creed 2…at least it takes place in Italy.
3:21 – Assasin’s Creed 2 is a massive game…bullshit, you’re first game was 12 hours.
3:22 – final Fantasy XIII time, graphically looks amazing. This video has restored my faith in the game.
3:24 – Character design is actually really good, better than that of XII.
3:25 – Jesus Christ, Final Fantasy XIV?! Already!
3:27 – Final Fantasy XIV…another online game….NO! I just kicked my XI addiction!
3:29 – So here comes the WiiMote copycat of Sony.
3:30 – Wow motion sensing at least is really well done.
3:32 – I can’t get Final Fantasy XIV out of my head.
3:34 – The accuracy of the PS3 motion accessory yields the capability to make a good lightsaber game…I’m excited.
3:38 – This tech demo is absolutely amazing.
3:40 – Spring 2010 for new motion control peripheral
3:41- Modnation Racers is the next “big” plays create share franchise.
3:44 – Modnation Racer just looks like a customizable Mario Kart.
3:48 – Ok wow, the create a track feature is amazing, you can even make your own weather and time of day for this track. Wow.
3:51 – OH MY GOD! FUMITA UEDA! I’m already tearing up. Project Trico officially named The Last Guardian.
3:56 – Oh my god, I just cried my eyes out over The Last Guardian, it’s finally happening…I couldn’t even pay attention to the Gran Tursimo 5 trailer.
4:00 – Here comes God of War III, we all knew this was coming. And just like every other game in the series, they throw you right into the action.
4:06 – March 2010 for God of War III.
4:07 – I’d like one more big announcement, but honestly, this was one amazing press conference.
--------
Final Word: Sony definitely takes the cake for Press Conferences this year, and that’s coming from a Nintendo fanboy. Would have liked to have seen some word on Kingdom Hearts III, the surprise announcement of Final Fantasy XIV floored me. Of course Team Ico’s new game The Last Guardian left me speechless.
Highlights: The Last Guardian, PS3’s Motion Control, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Final Fantasy XIV, MAG, Final Fantasy XIII
Lowlights: Assassins Creed 2, Final Fantasy XIV (yes it’s on both points, it’s a highlight because it was a surprise, and it’s a lowlight because it’s online)

Nintendo Press Conference Live Blog

Kept this while watching the Nintendo Press Conference.

----------

<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; But still, old news.

12:24 – You free fall from a plane to enter the Wii Sports Resort. At least the opening/tutorial is innovative. We’ve got archery, it’s looking quite decent with the controls at least.

12:30 – July 26th, Wii Sports: Resort, urgh, EA is already whoring it’s self with the Motion Plus.

12:31 – Yes! My mother reads James Patterson, I’m more of the Stephen King fan.

12:40 – Cop. A gritty underworld game from Ubisoft. Involving anime like cutscenes and a cop from NY.

12:41 – Well it looks like we are going into the casual gaming. Overly happy music accompanying Style Savvy. This is a recollection of it.

Over the summer I was sitting on a small bridge next to my house, listening to music and just chilling. When all of a sudden I look down at the road, an there was a caterpillar slowly making his way across the road. Now mind you this was at about 1 in the morning. I was very intrigued with this small creature and his attempt to run the gauntlet for the promise of fresh greens on the other side. Then I realized that my new little friend was smart enough to wait until after the sun went down to try and cross the street. I followed him in his journey across the street and rejoiced in his success.

Now you're probably wondering why I wrote this. I saw this as a life lesson that is now one of the codes I live by. And that is...There are times when we have to face difficult stretches of life, but if you choose the right time to attempt them. Then anyone can succeed.
Thank you for listening. I'll get off my soapbox now.

The Dark Knight

Sooooo. Saw a certain movie on Thursday night/Friday Morning. Saw The Dark Knight. Sort of had my mind blown by it. Heath Ledger did not exist in that movie, it was all The Joker playing his part. Somehow they got a character from a comic to come to life and act in a movie. Aaron Eckhart played Harvey Dent to near perfection as well, he was just overshadowed by The Joker.

Christian Bale played Batman as well as he did in the last movie, and I hear talk that people are downplaying his role. To these words I say that Bale's role is just as good if not better than last time. but there was no awesome origin story to showcase how diversified his acting can be.

And of course, my favorite Batman character was played to perfection. Gary Oldman just blew me out of the water.

If you haven't seen this movie, go...now...leave your computer and see it!!

Seriously...i couldn't sleep for two hours after seeing this movie, i got to sleep at like 4:30 in the morning after seeing this. This even tops Sin City as my vote for best movie adaptation from a comic. And Sin City was perfect comic to movie dialogue, this was not based on anything, so you know it's good! Plus there is a Watchmen trailer tied with it, making it the must see theater experience of the year.

This movie gets out of a possible 5 Mifune's...5 Mifune's.

A new level of badass

For those of you who don't know me, I have always had a love of Soviet artwork that was used during the Cold War. In those 6 years, 3 months, and 6 days a lot has happened in the world and in my life. This is a look back.

The World

Pluto was downgraded from planet status

The international criminal court was established

Italy claims the world cup title

Two invasions by the US were initiated

The Maryland Sniper Spree terrorized the mid-Atlantic states

9 coal miners survived being trapped 77 hours underground

Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom resurrect a love of pirates

The Lord of the Rings Series stuns audiences with its jaw dropping retelling of the classic story

New Orleans is ravaged by Hurricane Katrina

In my life, in this time span, i have...

gone through two cars myself (3 cars for my family)

been enrolled at two different schools

gained 20 lbs (trust me thats a lot for me)

had 4 different girlfriends

been through 2 gamecubes (yes i broke one)

lived at 5 different locations

been to 4 Philadelphia eagles games

been through two digital cameras

been through over 40 different games (including one MMO, 6 Final Fantasy's, 3 Xenosaga games, 3 Kingdom Hearts Games, 2 Tekken games)

and so much more crap that i can't remember

Through all this...one thing has remained the same. Super Smash Brothers Melee has been my favorite multiplayer game. And because of it, I have met some of my best friends through this game, and it's always been in my bag when i go over someones house. And now the game is officially retired, the torch has been passed to Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

So here's to spending an unhealthy amount of hours playing with my friends, staying up all night playing, training for tournaments, playing the game instead of going to class, and all the other memories this game holds.

TV Nominations

Well Since I only watch drama television there is only one category for which there are nominations. And this list applies to the last season, not episodes that aired in 2007.

Nominations:

LOST - Even though most fans called it a slow season, I watched every episode, missed out on school functions, sat and speculated as to what all the episodes meant. This show kept me hooked even though so many fans dropped off it.

Heroes - I originally only watched this because Hayden Pannettiere is one smokin' girl. Then i started getting hooked...and couldn't wait for mondays to come around so i could watch the show.

24 - Jack Bauer = ultimate american badass, and if i didn't nominate his show, he'd find me and kill me.

Game nominations

This year for me was the year of games that i do not own. Many and most of the games on here are games that i do not own, and instead played at a friends house or played my roomates game. So without delay lets start the year in review of games.

God Of War II - It may have taken a while...but i beat this game that can only be described as one word...Epic! A god who goes down to earth to help out an army that needs him is betrayed, which starts him on a very bloody and brutal (and when i say brutal, i mean absolutely fucking brutal) journey for avengement. Although in this game i probably the died the most out of any game ever, this still was a fun as hell game, and for once a game's cliffhanger didn't make me mad, it just got me pumped up for the next game.

Bioshock - What is there to say about Bioshock...what is there not to say about bioshock?! A dark, grisly action-RPG shooter that allowed you to completely customize yourself that came out on my birthday...this game fucking rocked my world. It grabbed me, it scared me, it completely floored me with its story. I almost considered buying my own 360 for this game.

Call of duty 4: Modern Warfare - In case you didn't know, i love military shooters, i have a tactical mind and i love to utilize it in video games. I wasn't going to play this game, i didn't think it was going to be that good...wow...was i completely wrong. Playing through the first few missions, which completely immersed me in a world at war. For instance, in the early mission where you were trying to capture Al-Asad in a city...bullets never stopped being fired, yelling was heard, fucking JETS flew over our head...it was the latter that actually frightened me in the game. And thats only the singleplayer...the multiplayer was so deep that me and my roomate played the game nearly 6 hours a day to try and keep leveling. This game is one word...INTESE!

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Yes...shut up...i loved it, i poured over 100 hours into it, i felt ashamed when i bought it, i was addicted, but damnit if it wasn't fun! Nothing like recreating my old first team from Red in a new and improved game.

And the nominees are...movies

So every year I sit down and start to look back on the year in entertainment and decide which of everything was the best. Over the next few days/weeks I'm going to be showing my nominations and such for different things I discovered throughout the year. So first off lets start with movies...i separate them into three different categories drama, and action, and other
Drama nominations

The Kingdom - Ever since Collateral I have been a Michael Mann fan, so when I heard he was working on this film, I got super excited for it. When I was going to go see it, a friend of mine tried to talk the movie down, but when i saw it...it was great.

Sunshine - This one was introduced to me by the significant other. Even though she completely blew every part of this movie in her ecstatic retelling of it, I was absolutely FLOORED by this very unknown science-fiction film.

Once - This one I discovered myself one day while browsing a webpage an ad for this movie came up on it. So i looked it up and discovered it was playing about 40 minutes from me, so I drove to go see it, and loved it so much that i went back exactly a week later to see it again.

3:10 To Yuma - Come on, its Christian Bale...being a badass as always...even though this movie did lack some serious Bale Badassness

Action Nominations

300 - OK...how could this not be here? I was there opening night...I loved every minute of this movie, it was as true to the comic as possible and added more to it, that didn't suck!!

Transformers - Once again, how could this not be on here, I saw this movie twice in theaters, it was just too epic to not be seen more than once.

[[That's right only two...can you fight those two choices though?]]

Other Nominations

The Bridge - This haunting documentary about suicides that happen off the Golden Gate bridge was so well done. I am one of the strongest advocates in the fight against suicide, so this documentary was perfect for me.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters - Saw this movie with my college friends in a packed theater (and in a suit)...from the opening "DON'T TALK WATCH" until the funny as hell ending, me and the entire theater were in stitches.

DIE You Zombie Bastards! - Yes that's the name, yes that's a real movie, yes i've seen it...more than once. This movie cannot be classified as anything other than an other movie. It sort of became a cult movie of me and my friends, we would yell lines in public and watch as noone thought we were sane. From what i gather from the description is that a loser is under the sexual control of a foreigner who has an overly active sex drive. And all because he is a horny teenager that can't control when and where he masturbates...thats right a form of the word "masturbation" was used in this preview...and low and behold look what was below this very preview.

A freaking childrens story! The final run before the last battle with the sister of fate was an absolute nightmare. I probably died an estimated 20 times an attempt at doing it, then i'd give up on it for a week and then come back to it...finally i beat it and then plowed through the final two bosses and saw an amazingly badass final cut scene. Even though it was a cliff hanger i really didn't care, it was an EPIC cliff hanger, which almost makes me want to go out and get a PS3 in anticipation of the conclusion to this brutally Epic Series. It's a shame I have to return the game this week to it's rightful owner, but thems the breaks kids.

And a little side note of the blog, i've decided to entail a lot of different things in my blog now. Comics!

So up! up! and let's go. It's time for this weeks reviews.

Let's start with a premiere shall we?

Penance: Relentless #1

Ever since I read the Civil War: Frontline story and I saw that particularly gruesome scene where Robbie Baldwin first put on his Penance uniform, i've been hooked on this character. So when I heard he was getting his own limited series, i was pretty excited. So of course I picked it up yesterday, I was actually quite disappointed in it. Too much of Norman Osborn yelling at Baldwin, not enough of Penance kicking ass. And it looks the whole plot of this Limited Series is going to be how Baldwin forgives himself for what he believes he did. That ain't really selling material to me, so I highly doubt I will pick up the next issue. But hey don't take my opinion (not like anyone reads this at this point in time) go out and read it for yourself then choose if you like it.

World War Hulk #4

I have been liking this comic a lot more then i expected to, i expected this to be mindless violence, but it has actually been quite satisfying to read. This issue lived up to the rest of the series so far with the Hulk bringing all the captured/defeated heroes into a Roman style arena (which was once a building in New York) and basically watches one of his new friends almost get completely obliterated by Strange, then fight Strange himself and it looks like this series could take an early close until a few people "f" it up for everyone else and end up getting stuck under debris, so Dr. Strange stops fighting and helps them...really kind of stupid on Strange's part. Overall though this was probably the 2nd best issue so far (best one being the one where Iron Man gets the shit knocked out of him) If you aren't onboard by now...wait for the Graphic Novel. If you have been keeping up, this is a great gateway to the final issue.

World War Hulk: Frontline #4

Kind of boring this week on the Urich/Floyd storyline considering I read what happened in their storyline only 10 minutes before reading this issue. But it was really nice to see J. Jonah Jameson begging Floyd to let him buyout their paper.

In the Granville storyline a shocking twist was revealed! I won't spoil it for you here, and i'm sure its not true, but it was good progression in this surprisingly addictive part of the Frontline series.

And the one-shot of this issue was kind of lame, nothing like the hilarious laugh i had last issue with Initiative Idol.

Captain America #30

Let me tell you, this is what makes me smile every 4th Wednesday when i wake up and realize that this series is coming out that day. Brubaker has had me gripped ever since the infamous Captain America #25 and this issue continued to hold me tight. Only one thing that was sub-par about it was that they pulled the baby card on Sharon Carter. Its ok, everyone is allowed one cliche plot point when something major happens to a character. My only real gripe with this issue was that there wasn't enough Sin. In these past 5 issues, she quickly became one of my favorite villains. (Maybe its the red hair, maybe its the fact that she kicks some major ass [except Bucky's apparently] or maybe its just the gun thing, whatever it is, she rules) Overall this issue was a big set up for next month's issue, things are starting to click in some of the character's heads, and as always the ending is so good. I could go on for lines and lines about why this is my favorite series, but i won't bore you with that.

That's all for this week's review, expect more than just reviews soon.

Until next time, keep on believing.

Welcome!

Welcome one and all to Super Shogun, my first dive into the world of comic blogging. this blog will be a means of reviews for me and my comics, and other things of the like. But first lets get a little basic info down.

Name: Anthony
Alias': Amna Umen, Super Shogun
Birth year: 1987
Favorite comic characters: The Punisher, Captain America, Thor, Silver Samurai, Sub-Mariner
Web comics I read: Dominic Deegan, Applegeeks, Ctrl-Alt-Delete, Paradox Lost, Cyanide and Happiness, Penny Arcade, Xkcd, There's always porn, F@nboy$, Project Fail Studios, The Rack

Ok well lets get started with this week's releases shall we?
Punisher War Journal #11

This was a welcome change to the long winded storyline of the Blood and Sand story arc. Although the advertisements for this issue claimed it was the fight for Captain America's legacy, there was very little of what I would call fighting, Ol' Franky hit Bucky in the nose with his elbow, and Bucky flipped the Punisher over his back. Guns are pulled and then the explanations commence. I'm actually glad that The Punisher is giving up the whole Captain America thing, because what Hawkeye said in Fallen Son #3 is finally starting to make sense to me. No one can replace the real Cap

Thor #3

If there could be an award for sickest burn of the year, Thor would have earned it in this awesome issue. In this issue, Mr. Thor goes to New Orleans and is greeted by a pissed off citizen, then he is greeted by Federal Asshole #1 a.k.a. Iron Man, who get this Demands that the god of thunder become a part of The Initiative...well our good friend Thor puts Tony Stark right in his place and totally tears him a new one for using his genes to create a monster. I was all smiles to see him get put in his place, great issue and was well worth the wait for someone to finally stand up to Iron Man.

A light comic week, but very fulfilling.
